Of all the mail that I’ve received on this 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, a drawing by 17-year-old Harry, from New Jersey, has made the greatest impact.
It features the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline submerged under blue waves. Dark clouds, made of curling black lines, threaten overhead.
Above the clouds he writes: “I have the right to a liveable (sic) future.” At the bottom of the page, Harry says “THANK YOU for committing to the no Fossil Fuel Money pledge!” He goes on to request that Congress consider environmental policy when writing COVID legislation.
