It’s officially Autism Awareness Month. The purpose of this time of year is to provide recognition of autism to people who are not familiar with the condition.

This month may be exciting for some people with autism and parents of children with autism, but I have a lot of opinions about this time of year.

Even though I was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 12, I was always annoyed with Autism Awareness Month and still have doubts about it today.

I remember when I was first diagnosed with ADHD, I didn’t know how to talk about it. I wasn’t sure what to say, and I didn’t know if telling people would change their perception of me. Part of me was worried they wouldn’t believe me, while another part was worried that they’d see me differently or judge me.
