The first time I thought about suicide, I was 6 years old. Over the last half a decade, after speaking with hundreds of people about the subject while making a documentary, I learned I wasn’t the only one who first thought about suicide at that age.

I talked to several other people, strangers who didn’t know each other, who told me they were 6 years old the first time they wanted to die.

There was something about the age of 6 and suicide ideation that made me curious. What made other children, at such a young age, think about dying?
