There are countless clichés in the English language about “change.” “Change is never easy, but always worth it.” “The only thing constant in life is change.” And let’s not forget the Serenity Prayer, commonly quoted and used as inspiration in 12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Change is all around us.
More importantly, the desire for change seems to be omnipresent. We are always aspiring for that “next step” — in self-improvement, in our relationships, in our careers; the list goes on.
