Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are traumatic experiences such as child abuse and neglect, financial hardship, and domestic and neighborhood violence that may trigger chronic, toxic levels of stress in the body that further impair neurodevelopment, behavior, and physical health as a child grows into adulthood.Many of the symptoms of traumatic stress overlap with symptoms of ADHD, posing diagnostic challenges for clinicians.
