Diversity In Clinical Trials: Why Is It Important?

There are many different forms of rules that we will encounter in our life. Some of those rules will provide us with guidelines on what we can or cannot do, while others work as more of a code of values.For this article, we will focus on the rules that lean towards values. As parents, it is our job to be good role models for our children.

A few days ago, I had the absolute privilege of attending the final stop of the National Art Centre’s Orchestra‘s Truth in Our Time tour. This concert was beyond exciting for what feels like a billion reasons: it was the final stop of their tour, the truth in our time theme was, well, timely, and this was the first time in two years that I’ve heard live music! And above all? I’ve been dreaming of going to one of these concerts since I first fell in love with Ottawa at age 14 on a choir trip to MusicFest Canada.

I grew up with an extremely rare bone disorder called McCune Albright syndrome. This disorder affects 1 in 100,000 to 1 in 1,000,000, so I guess you can say I won a genetic lottery.

It took me a while to finally have enough courage to push myself to take my first solo trip. I am glad I did because the lessons learned while traveling have had a lasting impact on my life.

I sit in the parking lot of my local pharmacy, fingers lightly clasped around the steering wheel like a loose forkful of pasta. My breathing is quick but not panicked. Did I remember to call my surgeon? What else do I need to pick up so I can conserve energy and not make two trips? How long of a nap should I take to get this energy back?

If you’ve been reading my articles for a while, it might seem that I’m pretty articulate in getting my thoughts across. That’s the benefit of writing and revision: I feel much more confident when communicating in this way and I don’t have the immediacy of conversation to cause me anxiety. That’s because I’m a chronic “overexplainer” — talk to me in person or on a call, and I’ll keep talking… and talking. The more anxious I am, the longer it goes on.

Parenting is not an easy feat, there is so much pressure on our backs, that even the slightest bit of extra pressure can push us over the edge.
