It means I need to be five times closer than a normally sighted person to see clearly. And, mind you, that’s 20 over 100 corrected—with eyeglasses on.
That exam, which occurred in June of last year, represented my worst recorded vision to date. Now in my early 40s, I’d been holding steady at the 20/60–70 range for years. “Here we go again,” I thought, give or take a few expletives.
