When we hear the phrase “defying the odds” we expect inspirational stories about finding strength in the face of adversity to follow.

Unfortunately, for myself and countless others, this is not always the case. Sometimes the odds are in your favor — and yet you find yourself in a ditch on the side of a road you never meant to travel.

In 2019, our family’s strength was tested in every imaginable way. On Jan. 3 my husband, Jordan, received a devastating call; his Papa had been found deceased, in his home while his wife was in the hospital.
