There is something about being the oldest child that sets you apart from the rest of the world. As the oldest of two, my parents had a lot to learn about raising a child.

Add to the equation that we immigrated together and navigated a new culture and language, I think it’s safe to say that we all struggled in our own right.

I have written about the generational trauma I have experienced and I still believe that part of my struggle stems from how my parents, coming from a foreign country, raised me the only way they knew how.
